Meet Albert Anum: The Ghanaian Touring the World with Just a Ghanaian Passport
Albert Anum, a Ghanaian currently based in the USA, previously lived in Canada and the UK. He recently began an ambitious mission to travel the world using only his Ghanaian passport. In an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide, Albert revealed that he has already toured 40 states across the United States.
Albert explained that despite traveling to countries like Canada, the UK, and the USA, he is now starting over from scratch. He was involved in an accident that left him financially strained, but he remains determined. He noticed that most people who travel the world are usually Americans who can do so with ease because of their powerful passports. That realization inspired him to take on this challenge — to explore the world as a Ghanaian without holding a U.S. or Canadian passport.
He admitted that it’s a financially demanding journey, especially with the cost of visa applications, but he remains hopeful. “I don’t have all the money for this project,” he said, “but I believe in the vision. I’m not married, I have no children, and during my working years I was able to save some money.”
Albert hopes to find a sponsor to support his dream. His mantra is: “One man, one passport, 197 countries.”
I believe that I will find a sponsor to support my journey. My goal is simple — one man, one passport, 197 countries. I plan to revisit Canada and the UK. I already have a Schengen visa,India, China and have been to some European countries. However, countries like Japan, and Australia rejected my visa applications. But I won’t give up — every ‘no’ only pushes me to try again.
He also spoke about how fear holds many Ghanaians back. “People are afraid of deportation, especially in the U.S. because of ICE. But if you have genuine documents like a B1 or B2 visa, no one will sack you,” he said. “We fear too much. That’s why I’m showing people it’s possible.”
Currently traveling across the southern states of the U.S., Albert is identifying Africans and engaging with them. He shares their stories and educates others, especially Ghanaians, on how to apply for visas themselves instead of relying on agents. “Many people own big businesses but still go through ‘connection men’ to apply. I’ve been denied many times, and I want to educate others that they can do it themselves.”
His journey is full of human connections. In one city, he stayed with someone he met on LinkedIn, who hosted him for three days and showed him around. He has also received food and support from fellow Ghanaians along the way.
Albert uses his Canadian driver’s license and visa card to rent cars in the U.S. to help him reach new destinations. “If you have your Canadian license, you can rent a car in America — the police will see you’re eligible to drive,” he explained.
Though he’s been to the U.S. several times before, he noted that this time, he’s focused on visiting areas he hadn’t seen, especially in the South. “The U.S. is calm. I just want to keep going and inspire others to dream big.”
