Daniel, popularly known as Ebo of Daniel’s Weldcraft, is a skilled welder based in Dome Kwabenya, Accra. Specializing in stainless steel fabrication and balcony machine engineering, he began his welding journey in 2020 after completing Junior High School. Instead of pursuing the traditional academic path, he chose to learn a trade due to financial constraints and because he came from a large family. While some of his siblings continued with formal education, he moved from the Central Region to Accra to master welding under a mentor.

Ebo recalls rejecting a job once because he lacked funds and materials, but today, he says,

“God has truly blessed me through this work.” He believes skilled jobs often pay better than government jobs and says integrity is key: “If you’re honest and truthful to your customers, you’ll go far.”

Proud of his accomplishments, Ebo shares that many of his classmates who pursued higher education are not as financially stable as he is. “Sometimes, we earn more in a month than some people living abroad,” he added. His strategy for growth includes occasionally working for free — especially for influential clients — in exchange for referrals and connections. He’s worked in places like Dormaa and Asutiano, sometimes doing all the fabrication in Accra before transporting finished products to the job site.

Known for his creativity, Ebo designs gates himself. One of his breakthrough moments came after working for a Superintendent; the gate he fabricated led to multiple referrals and opened many doors. He explains that depending on the complexity, some gates take two weeks to fabricate. When he works with his team, they can complete fabrication in three days, and then the spraying takes another four.

From his welding business, Ebo has been able to buy land and provide for his family. He encourages young people to learn a skill alongside their academic or office careers. “Even if you work in an office, you can hire laborers to run the business for you,” he said.

Although he’s had opportunities to travel abroad — including one from a UK-based client who wanted to sponsor him — Ebo turned it down. “I didn’t want to leave my clients behind. I was building something here,” he explained.

He is known online as The Celebrity Welder and uses his social media to share his work and inspire others. Ebo continues to mentor others and proudly passes on the knowledge he’s gained from the welding trade.
