Gina Wateregarden, a Ghanaian woman living in the UK, has finally tied the knot with her white partner, Richard. She revealed that they had their official wedding on Saturday, June 21st. However, their traditional ceremony took place earlier in Ghana on April 12th, followed by an online marriage. According to Gina, they still plan to have a formal wedding celebration in the UK soon.

A familiar face on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide show with DJ Nyaami, Gina often shares her journey abroad. She mentioned that her mother, who was diagnosed with dementia, is currently doing well and now lives in Ghana after previously staying in the UK.

Gina recounted her past experiences with love, sharing that her first marriage to a Ghanaian man didn’t work out.

“When I came to the UK, I remained single for a long time. Ghanaian men used to approach me, but eventually, no one was proposing,” she explained. “Maybe because I had a big car and a good job, people assumed I was a ‘big woman’ and wealthy, which intimidated them. So I gave up on relationships—until God made a way.”

She met Richard at her workplace, where he often visited his disabled son.

“He greeted me one day, and from there, our connection started. When I noticed he liked me, I waited for him to make a move,” she shared. “We dated for four months, and then he proposed.”

Gina spoke about how mature and serious Richard was about their relationship.

“He’s been married before and has children. I’m also divorced and have children, though mine are older than his,” she said.

They currently live separately but plan to move in together next month. They’re also planning their honeymoon around the time of their formal wedding ceremony.

Reflecting on her journey, she said,

“After my divorce in 2023, I stayed single for about two years. Living abroad can be lonely. I had everything—my own house, car, and job—but it wasn’t enough. The loneliness was deep.”

Gina expressed joy in finding companionship.

“Richard includes me and the kids in everything. It’s been comforting. I’ve even adjusted to his diet—he mostly eats boiled yam, and that works for me.”

Though Richard hasn’t visited Ghana yet, he is eager to go. He reads extensively about Ghana, and the couple often video calls Gina’s family back home. Interestingly, Richard’s younger brother is also married to a Black woman, and Gina shared that his entire family has embraced her warmly.

She admitted that her busy work life left little room for relationships, but now she understands the importance of having a partner.

\“Being in a couple is fulfilling. When I posted my wedding pictures, many women congratulated me, but some men mocked me, saying I had married an older man like my father,” she laughed.

She added,

“Some people are now asking me to find them white partners. But I always say not every white person is genuine. Some white families can be racist. People think dating a white person means no disappointment, but that’s not always true.”
