Dorcas, a regular guest on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami, has been living in Israel for the past two years. She shared her experiences living through conflict, working hard to survive, and dealing with criticism from those back home.

According to Dorcas, despite the war, people in Israel are gradually returning to work.

“At first, when the war began, everyone closed their shops. Now, I’m walking by the beach and the shops are open again,” she said. “It’s not easy to go into town, but things are getting back to normal. The army, police, and immigration officers are all out. Although there’s been a ceasefire, the war experience was frustrating.”

She emphasized that people should stop being hypocrites about those who travel abroad.

“I don’t lie. I speak the truth. Some people didn’t believe I could come to Israel and make it for three years. I’ve managed to complete a big project – 16 rooms – and got legal assistance to regularize my stay. I now have my work visa.”

Dorcas also addressed recent comments made by a Rabbi about Christians.

“I only spoke the truth. People can agree or disagree, but that doesn’t change reality.”

She explained that although Tel Aviv is busy and full of people, she currently lives in Eilat, where the Red Sea attracts many tourists.

“If you get the chance to come to Israel, you have to try your best to get regularized. Unless you marry a white person, it’s very hard to get documents, but I went through the right process.”

Dorcas concluded by saying that the fear of war made life difficult at first – constantly watching the sky for missiles and receiving alerts.

“It was scary, but we had to survive. Now that things are calm, we’re back to working and making money.”
