Yaba Naaba Gandi, a Ghanaian entrepreneur based in Tamale, shared her inspiring journey on SVTV Africa’s Business Link with DJ Nyaami. As a professional nurse with over 10 years of experience, Yaba initially ran her business on the side. Today, she proudly promotes Made-in-Ghana and Northern Region products such as fugu (smock), shea butter, groundnut paste, soya beans, cow head, and legs. She purchases these locally and handles nationwide deliveries.

“I started the business some years ago, but I wasn’t serious about it,” Yaba admitted. Things took a turn in 2023 after she began watching Obeng Darko’s interviews on SVTV Africa. “I was processing my documents to travel to Canada, but after listening to some of the stories from Ghanaians abroad, I realized I could also succeed right here.”

Initially discouraged by the money she had lost in her migration plans, Yaba chose to stay and fully commit to her business. That decision has paid off.

“I earn less than GHS 3,000 monthly as a nurse, but the business brings in more than that,” she said. “I’ve become more active—while people are asleep, others are sending me money from orders.”

She began her journey with just 10kg of shea butter and has since grown significantly.

“I recently supplied someone with 300kg of shea butter worth over GHS 11,000. Many clients use it for hair and skincare products.”

Yaba doesn’t operate a physical shop—her business is entirely online. Currently on a 3-year study leave from her nursing job to pursue adult education, she manages her growing venture from home.

“I believe money is in Ghana; we just don’t see it,” she emphasized. “Unemployed youth should consider starting their own businesses. There are plenty of opportunities, especially here in the north.”
