Ofori, a young Ghanaian entrepreneur, is making waves in the cleaning and facility management industry. In an interview with DJ Nyaami on the Business Link segment of SVTV Africa, he shared how his journey began and how he built a thriving business offering pest control, fumigation, laundry, and domestic staffing services.

Ofori is originally from Bompata in Asante Akyem Wenchi. After completing senior high school, he couldn’t afford to further his education immediately. His dream was to become a soldier or a police officer, but when those plans didn’t materialize, he took another route. He moved to East Legon in Accra to live with his brother and started working as a caretaker in a large mansion owned by a Ghanaian based in the U.S.

His excellent cleaning and caretaking skills earned him recommendations from other Ghanaians living abroad (“Borgas”). Soon, Ofori was managing and cleaning up to five houses, which marked the beginning of his professional cleaning journey.

Inspired by Obeng Darko on TikTok, Ofori registered his business — Jilbert & Christopher Touch Facility Management — in 2024. He co-founded the company with his partner, Christopher, and together they provide a wide range of services, including post-construction cleaning, pest control, laundry for students, house help placements, and general facility management.

Ofori is also a student at the University of Ghana, pursuing a degree in Medical Laboratory Science. He plans to continue with entrepreneurship even after graduation, focusing on scaling his company rather than working in a hospital lab.

Currently based in East Legon Adjiriganor, Ofori’s company employs 15 workers. They serve high-end areas like East Legon Hills, where many wealthy Ghanaians and expatriates live. Their services are contract-based, and they supply vetted house helps and stewards to homes and businesses.

To ensure trust, Ofori’s company performs background checks, biometric registration, and even works with the CID if any staff are involved in theft. “When house helps or boys steal from their employers, we hold our company accountable and take responsibility,” he explained. “We make sure to send such cases to the appropriate authorities.”

Ofori shared a warning about the risks of being a caretaker: “Some caretakers take advantage of homeowners, especially those abroad. I know of cases where house helps or caretakers attempted to take over houses, even threatening the owners when asked to leave.”

Despite criticism from some who wonder why a university graduate would do cleaning work, Ofori is proud of his path. “People say I’m a graduate — why am I doing cleaning? But I see myself as an entrepreneur. I know a woman who cleans banks and earns a lot. It’s about hard work and vision.”

Looking ahead, Ofori plans to expand his services further and open new branches. “This is just the beginning. We are building a company that offers trusted domestic and facility management services for Ghanaians home and abroad.”
