Dr. Samuel Boateng on AI, Cybersecurity, and Career Growth in IT

Dr. Samuel Boateng, a Ghanaian IT expert based in the United States, is the CEO of Slam Technology—a tech company with branches in Virginia (USA), Ghana, and a satellite office in Worcester, Massachusetts. In an interview on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide Show with DJ Nyaami, Dr. Boateng shared insights on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and how aspiring tech professionals can thrive in the IT field.

Dr. Boateng, who is also the husband of Francisca—the founder of Slam Technology—explained how AI mimics human behavior, learns from data, and improves over time through various forms of machine learning. He emphasized that understanding AI begins with understanding how systems adapt and evolve using algorithms.

Understanding Cybersecurity and Its Importance

Dr. Boateng also broke down the basics of cybersecurity, which he described as a field governed by strict rules, policies, and regulations. “Cybersecurity is more than just a segment of IT; it involves risk management, compliance, and maintaining security protocols to protect systems and data,” he explained.

Many people get confused because they only study a single area, but cybersecurity is a broad field. There are entry-level roles like Cybersecurity Analyst, and more advanced roles such as:

  • Information Security Analyst

  • Security Consultant

  • SOC Analyst (Security Operations Center)

  • Incident Response Analyst

  • Network Security Analyst

  • Security Compliance Analyst

  • Risk Management Analyst

  • Data Forensics Analyst

High Demand and Career Opportunities

According to Dr. Boateng, these positions are in high demand, and with the right skills, candidates can earn well—ranging from $90,000 to $150,000 per year. In some areas like Washington, D.C. and California, professionals earn between $400,000 and $500,000 annually, especially with specialized skills and remote roles.

To succeed, he advises aspiring IT professionals to:

  • Learn networking and security fundamentals.

  • Aim to become IT security personnel or information security analysts.

  • Build a solid resume that reflects your experience and skills.

  • Use LinkedIn strategically—connect with at least 10 professionals, post regularly about your IT learning journey, and build your professional portfolio.

  • Create and share short videos (1–3 minutes) explaining what you’ve learned on platforms like YouTube and Instagram.

“Don’t just stay home. Get on forums, learn new skills, and open yourself to opportunities. The more you prepare, the better your chances in interviews and job offers,” he said.

Salary Negotiation Tips

Dr. Boateng also shared a salary negotiation tip: when asked about expected salary, respond by asking what the position is worth in the market rather than stating a figure first. Avoid claiming you earn significantly less, as employers might use that to lowball your offer.

Training and Certifications

You don’t need a green card to get started in IT. Many certifications can be done online or through institutions Slam Technology partners with. You only need a valid government ID to register and take exams.

Dr. Boateng shared success stories of students who trained through Slam Technology while on visas. After getting their green cards, they secured well-paying jobs in IT. “Dedication and time are key,” he emphasized. “If you finish learning and don’t understand the material, go back and revise. Mastery comes with time.”

Tech and Financial Freedom

He also encouraged Africans—both abroad and in Ghana—not to underestimate online opportunities.

“I know people in Ghana making $50,000 a year from crypto and tech. The IT world is wide open now—you don’t need connections to succeed. If you’re making good money in Ghana, why rush to America?”
