Auntie Mary, also known as Mrs. Mary Segami or Davi Segami, is the CEO of Segami Enterprise, a company that has been in the spare parts and car tyres business for over 35 years. In an interview on SVTV Africa’s On Business Link with DJ Nyaami, she shared her inspiring journey as a businesswoman who built her empire from humble beginnings.

She started by selling sugar and rice at a market location, but the business didn’t do well and eventually collapsed. Refusing to give up, she searched for a new place and began selling spare parts from a small shop near a washing bay, an area that was largely undeveloped and bushy at the time. Her husband helped her get a small space to start, and though she didn’t know the trade well at first, she learned by asking questions from the few customers who came around.

With only GHC 3,000 and a few goods, she launched the spare parts business. Over time, she expanded, traveling to Accra to buy goods and even importing car batteries. She stopped importing when the returns declined and switched to a system where suppliers brought her goods, and she paid after selling them.

After 35 years, she has built shops, a hotel, and a house, and successfully raised her children through school and university. She advises the youth not to rush success but to be diligent and patient. “Money dey Ghana,” she says, encouraging people to work hard and stay focused.

She also spoke about challenges she faced, including theft. In one incident, a worker dug a hole under her drawer to steal money. Her husband discovered the hidden stash. In another case, a trusted employee was sent to deposit money at the bank but ended up falsifying receipts and pocketing the funds. Now, she uses computerized stock systems to track everything.

She believes her type of business is more rewarding than a regular office job because she sees money daily. Despite growing competition—especially from large shops like Abossey Okai—she still thrives because of her loyal customers.

Her hotel, Angel Site Hotel, is located at COM9 in the Industrial Area near Everpure. Looking back, she feels proud of what she has accomplished and encourages young women to start small, stay focused, and build gradually.
