Charlotte Owusu, a Ghanaian currently living in Milan, Italy, recently shared a heartfelt story in search of her childhood friend, Cecilia Dzotepe.
“I met Cecilia back in 2007 when we were both in Class 5 at school in the Eastern Region. She was not just a classmate, but a close friend. We used to share everything. I remember she lived with her aunty and told me she was an orphan. Life was tough for her, and I could feel her struggles even as a child,” Charlotte recalled.
After Charlotte moved from the Eastern Region to Kumasi, they lost touch.
“Since then, I haven’t seen her again. I’ve searched for her on social media but haven’t had any luck. I even asked some old schoolmates in Hemang, and they told me she had moved back to the Volta Region,” she said.
Charlotte shared fond memories of their school days:
“We attended Osino D/A school. I remember our teacher, Mr. Sarkodie, and some classmates like Kwabena Amofa. I left the school in 2007 when I moved to Nkawea Akyease in Kumasi.”
Charlotte went on to learn sewing in 2014 and traveled out of Ghana in 2015.
“I first returned to Ghana the day Ebony passed away—it was a sad memory. I got married and now live in Italy with my husband. I’ve opened multiple shops in Ghana—one in 2018, and another in 2021 where I run a provisions store. My mom currently manages the shops for me while I’m away,” she said proudly.
She clarified that she didn’t use any special connection to travel.
“It was by God’s grace and the support of my husband that everything worked out. I arrived in Italy last year, and now I work and attend school at the same time. I’m also learning the Italian language.”
Speaking about life in Italy, Charlotte said, “It’s peaceful here. People mind their own business. Not many speak English, but I’m adjusting. The police don’t disturb people unnecessarily—it’s a comfortable life.”
Charlotte’s main reason for sharing her story is to find her old friend.
“Cecilia Dzotepe, if you see this, please reach out. You’re like a sister to me. I’ve always wondered how your life turned out. I’m not rich, but I want to help in any way I can. I truly hope to see you again one day.”
