From Selling Tomatoes to Running a Successful CCTV Business: The Inspiring Journey of Emmanuel Ayensu Obeng

In an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa’s Business Link, Emmanuel Ayensu Obeng,CEO of Ayensu1 Electronics, shared his remarkable journey from humble beginnings to becoming a successful entrepreneur in Ghana’s security and electronics industry.

Emmanuel started his journey in 1995 when he moved from Accra New Town to Tema in search of opportunities. He initially lived with his uncle in Community 7 and tried various hustles, including selling tomatoes and other goods. Eventually, he decided to pursue business full-time, learning TV repairs under the guidance of Bra Kwame. He also ventured into buying and reselling electronics at Community 4, where he worked for eight years before officially launching his business.

Over time, he realized the increasing demand for CCTV camera installations. Determined to learn, he took YouTube and other platforms, gradually Learning & mastering the skill. He began practicing by purchasing a few items and testing different installation techniques. His breakthrough came when a client from abroad hired him for an installation. Although he lacked some technical knowledge at the time, he sought help from a more experienced technician, learned from the experience, and expanded his expertise to include wireless cameras, solar cameras, and alarm systems.

The Importance of Patience and Hard Work
Emmanuel emphasized that jobs exist in Ghana and that young people can create opportunities for themselves if they are willing to learn and work hard. He advises aspiring entrepreneurs to be patient, stay focused, and avoid unnecessary competition

. “Give yourself five years to build something solid, and you’ll see the results,” he said.

He also highlighted the power of social media in growing his business. Through Facebook and TikTok, he has been able to reach more customers and educate people on the importance of CCTV installations. His patience and commitment to customer service have earned him a loyal client base.

Never Underestimate Small Earnings
Reflecting on his early struggles, Emmanuel recalled a moment that reinforced his business philosophy of not underestimating small earnings. While using a drilling machine at work, a man from Dawenya paid him just 15 GHCfor a small service. Later, while at Melcom in Community 12, he discovered that the same man had left additional money for him to buy whatever he needed. At a time when he was financially struggling, this act of generosity meant a lot to him. Since then, he has adopted the motto: “Don’t give small money a chance.”

Today, his shop, which once started empty, is now stocked with a variety of products, including sliding door alarms, smoke detectors, and SIM cameras. He has built a successful business that not only pays his rent but has also allowed him to marry, support his family, and employ others.

“Many people think traveling abroad is the only way to succeed, but you can make it in Ghana,” Emmanuel said. His advice to the youth is to stay dedicated, learn valuable skills, and take advantage of available opportunitiesinstead of wasting time on unproductive activities online.
