Yaw Asamoah, a Ghanaian poultry farmer based in Golf City, recently shared his journey on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle GH with DJ Nyaami.

He revealed that although he had planned for years, he only started his poultry business last month. Before venturing into farming, Yaw was involved in politics and worked under some Members of Parliament. He was inspired by his late father, who was a coffee farmer, and his mother, who continued harvesting cocoa after his father’s passing. Watching farming shows further fueled his passion, and he decided to follow in the footsteps of established farmers.

Yaw was particularly influenced by DerchFarms, a farmer he discovered on TikTok. He reached out for advice, and Derch Farms became his mentor, offering guidance free of charge. He encourages aspiring farmers to follow platforms like Derch Farms and Paa Farms for valuable insights.

To start his poultry business, Yaw acquired land that was already owned by his family, where they had built a house and stored construction materials. He initially purchased 200 birds of the Holland breed, which cost 4,200 GHC, noting that poultry feed expenses are significant. “If you budget 200 GHC for feed, it won’t be enough,” he emphasized.

Yaw currently employs two workers who live with his family and help his mother care for the birds. His goal is to expand to 2,000 birds. He shared that his cousin attempted to travel abroad five times before finally making it with his family, but Yaw believes he can succeed in Ghana through business.

“Instead of traveling, I chose to build something for myself. In five years, I won’t even think about going abroad.”

He advises young people to focus on meaningful content that adds value to their lives instead of distractions.

“Why waste time watching things that don’t benefit you? Watch content that helps you grow.”

Yaw uses TikTok to document his farming journey and inspire others. He receives calls from young people who want to start their own poultry farms, including individuals from Accra, Kasoa, and Amazaman. When he is unable to assist directly, he refers them to his mentor, Derch Farms.

The demand for eggs is high, with many customers requesting to place orders.

“People are calling me from Accra Central, asking me to write their names and numbers for eggs. The market is there,” he said, encouraging the youth to consider farming as a lucrative career.

For inquiries, Yaw Asamoah can be reached through his farm’s social media handle, Neuroma Farms, or at 0596674688.
