Ghanaian interns Student Garry Shares His Journey to Germany After Visa Struggles

For many young Ghanaians, studying abroad is a dream, but the journey can be filled with setbacks. Garry Kwabena Dwomoh, a Ghanaian international student in Germany, knows this all too well. After multiple visa rejections, he finally secured his student visa and is now making an impact. Speaking on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami, Garry opened up about his struggles, the people who discouraged him, and his ultimate success.

Garry’s path to Germany was far from smooth. After completing his studies in Banking and Finance at UPSA university of professional studies, he was posted to GPHA Harbour for his National Service—far from the banking job he expected. But his biggest challenge came in 2019 when his visa application for Germany was denied.

Determined to find a way, Garry sought financial support to strengthen his visa application. He approached a wealthy woman for a bank statement, but instead of assistance, she discouraged him.

“She told me there was nothing abroad,” he recalled. However, he later discovered that the same woman had sent her own daughter to study overseas.

“Helping people is good, but be careful who you take advice from,” he warned. “You can succeed in Ghana, but the gap between the rich and the poor is huge. How many young people can start a business with enough capital?”

Despite the setbacks, Garry remained persistent. Last year, he finally received his German student visa. His story took another positive turn when the German Embassy recognized his efforts. After speaking at a program with their visa counselor, the embassy even featured him on their social media.

Reflecting on his journey, Garry expressed gratitude for his aunt, who was instrumental in supporting him. He also emphasized the importance of faith and perseverance.

“Remember God in everything you do—if you don’t give up, you will surely win!”

Garry’s story serves as motivation for young people aspiring to study abroad. While challenges are inevitable, determination and the right support system can make all the difference.
