Nana King on Immigration Crackdown and Business Impact in New York

Nana King, a taxi driver with Kingsman Airport Shuttles, is a regular guest on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide show with DJ Nyaami.

He has shared his experiences regarding the impact of immigration policies on his business and the general state of New York City.

Nana King explains that under the Trump administration, immigration raids and deportations have drastically affected his livelihood.

“Before Trump, flights arriving in New York carried around 200 passengers. Now, it’s often just 100, and by the time it’s my turn to pick up a fare, there are no passengers left.”

He believes that the Republican Party strategically implements immigration policies. Recently, he claims, authorities have been deporting Venezuelan and other South American immigrants to Guantanamo Bay, with their home countries initially refusing to accept them.

ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) has intensified its operations, targeting undocumented immigrants traveling by public transport.

“People without legal residency (Nkrataa) should avoid Greyhound buses, trains, and other public transport. ICE officers now board buses, especially in Maryland, to check papers and arrest undocumented individuals.”

Instead, he advises people to use Uber, taxis, or private cars, as immigration officers are less likely to stop small vehicles.

According to Nana King, the increased deportations have led to a significant reduction in crime in New York City.

“Before, Venezuelan gangs were attacking NYPD officers, robbing stores, and even kidnapping people. Now, they’ve gone into hiding or have been deported. Pickpockets at Times Square have also disappeared.”

He also mentions that many Senegalese vendors who sold counterfeit designer goods and perfumes have been arrested or have fled.

“They used to sell fake bags to unsuspecting foreigners, thinking they were real. But now, the city is being cleaned up, and people feel safer.”

Nana King highlights that surveys show strong support for Trump’s immigration policies among white Americans. He argues that most protests against these policies are led by foreigners, who, in his view, have no say in how U.S. citizens should govern their country.

He also warns that undocumented immigrants with criminal records face an even greater risk.

“If you don’t have papers and a criminal record, the executive order will ensure you are deported immediately.”

The government aims to deport 11 million undocumented immigrants, with a strategy of arresting 100 people daily.

“At this rate, it would take 50 years to deport everyone. Even deporting 2 million is proving difficult. So if you’re undocumented, stay vigilant.”

Despite challenges, Nana King remains optimistic about his taxi business and continues to share insights on SVTV Africa.
