Nana Anim Highlights the Impact of Immigration Policies on U.S. Jobs and Businesses

Ghanaian-born, U.S.-based content creator and chef, Nana Anim, recently shared his insights on immigration and employment in an interview on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide Show with DJ Nyaami.

Nana Anim pointed out a paradox in the American job market: while many citizens complain about immigrants taking their jobs, they often refuse to take on those same roles themselves. He emphasized that despite concerns over job shortages—an issue even highlighted in former President Donald Trump’s campaign—many Americans still decline low-wage positions.

With Pennsylvania’s minimum wage still at $7 per hour, Nana Anim questioned whether immigrants were truly responsible for keeping wages low.

He argued that now that immigration crackdowns have forced many undocumented workers indoors, citizens have more leverage to negotiate better wages, potentially up to $15 an hour.

However, he noted that many Americans refuse to work for $12 an hour and instead blame their financial struggles on immigrants rather than focusing on skill development.

Nana Anim also highlighted the irony of a Spanish man who supported Trump’s immigration policies—wearing a “Spanish for Trump” T-shirt—only to be arrested and deported.

In Texas, government-funded agencies are offering cash rewards of $1,500 for reporting illegal immigrants.

This policy has even led to Ghanaians in Texas turning on each other for the financial incentive. Texas remains the only state paying individuals to report undocumented immigrants, making it a unique hotspot for such activity.

Nana Anim described how U.S. streets now appear emptier, with reduced traffic and fewer signs of immigrant workers.

The absence of immigrants has drastically altered the atmosphere in some communities.

One of the hardest-hit sectors is the restaurant industry. Many establishments, including major chains like Domino’s Pizza, rely heavily on Spanish-speaking workers, whose sudden disappearance has left businesses scrambling for staff.

Nana Anim warned that if deportations continue at this rate, businesses that depend on immigrant labor will face severe disruptions, potentially leading to widespread closures.

His insights highlight the unintended consequences of immigration policies and the crucial role immigrant workers play in sustaining the U.S. economy.
