Attaa Maame Speaks on Deportations and Fear Among Immigrants in the U.S.

Ghanaian-born, U.S.-based Attaa Maame, a returning guest on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami, has shared her thoughts on the current immigration climate under former President Donald Trump.

According to Attaa Maame, many Ghanaians are living in fear due to Trump’s immigration policies. She believes Trump is fulfilling his campaign promises, which were aimed at pleasing white voters. She also noted that most wealthy individuals in America are part of the LGBTQ community.

Trump’s policies have primarily targeted criminals involved in sex trafficking, gun violence, domestic violence, rape, homicide, and even possession of pornography.

While deportations are happening, she stated that she has not personally seen any Ghanaians being arrested.

She emphasized that many of those detained by ICE are violent offenders, and the authorities are focusing on serious crimes, including drug trafficking.

The increased crackdown has created panic among immigrants. People are even afraid to go grocery shopping due to the uncertainty surrounding ICE raids.

She pointed out that authorities use addresses and WhatsApp to track undocumented immigrants, highlighting America’s strong intelligence and cybersecurity systems.

Additionally, she mentioned that some Ghanaians working within law enforcement assist investigations by translating Twi for authorities.

While many people continue their daily routines, Black immigrants, in particular, are living in fear. In places like Queens and 72nd Street, life appears normal, but the fear of deportation lingers.

Attaa Maame criticized Ghanaians who celebrate deportations, questioning what they gain from wanting their fellow countrymen sent back. She also expressed concern about family members in Ghana placing financial pressure on their relatives abroad.

She shared the story of a 76-year-old Ghanaian man in the U.S. who was called by a family member for money, despite being on a pension and struggling himself. She urged people in Ghana to ease their demands so those abroad can save and prepare for any potential deportation.

She noted that while many Ghanaians in various states are still working, those in the Bronx remain indoors out of fear. She encouraged them to continue working and paying their bills, emphasizing that they are not the primary targets for deportation.

Attaa Maame also revealed that Trump had wanted Canada to be added as the 52nd U.S. state, but the idea was rejected due to concerns over Polish migration to Canada.

She concluded by urging people to stay informed and follow Switch TV1 on YouTube for more updates.
