Fred Moni: From Shami Longo to a New Beginning

Fred Moni, formerly known as Shami Longo, recently opened up about his life journey and rebranding on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Gh Show with DJ Nyaami.

The artist revealed that he changed his stage name due to the powerful influence of words.

He explained that “Shami Longo,” which means “shame to losers and gossips,” didn’t align with his aspirations for success.

Instead, he adopted “Fred Moni” to manifest prosperity and growth.

Fred reflected on his earlier days in the music industry, admitting that while the name “Shami Longo” resonated with fans during the Kasahari era, it hindered his career progression.

To rejuvenate his brand and focus on success, he chose to rebrand as Fred Moni and let the world rediscover him.

Fred shared his struggles after gaining  fame. He admitted to losing focus, indulging in a lavish lifestyle, and neglecting his craft, which led to a downward spiral.

“When you lose your shine, people disappear, and the attention you once received fades,” he said, revealing that even friends turned their backs on him.

To make ends meet during tough times, Fred resorted to driving Uber, despite feeling embarrassed.

He recounted moments when passengers recognized him, including fellow musicians like Muggez and Opanka.

“It was humbling, but it helped me survive. Many colleagues are afraid to do menial jobs, but I had no choice,” he explained.

Now single after a failed marriage, Fred Moni said he’s dedicating his time and resources to his craft.

He emphasized the importance of self-reliance, stating,

“If I had a girlfriend, I’d spend my money on her. Now, I invest everything into my music.”

He spends most of his time in the studio, driven by the belief that hard work and consistency will pay off.

Fred also touched on the challenges of hustling in Ghana versus abroad. While he acknowledged the difficulties of making a living locally, he encouraged people to stay disciplined, focused, and consistent in their pursuits, as opportunities can arise anywhere.

He urged Ghanaians to avoid selling valuable assets to chase uncertain dreams abroad, sharing stories of people who returned empty-handed after making such sacrifices.

Fred highlighted the need for genuine support within the music industry and society at large.

“If you’re not doing well, no one wants to help. But those who support in small ways make a big difference,” he said.

He also criticized fake prophets for misleading people and playing mind games, noting that his upcoming single was inspired by their actions.

Fred Moni’s story is one of resilience, self-discovery, and transformation.

He hopes to inspire others to stay true to their goals, make strategic decisions, and believe in the power of rebranding and reinvention.

As he works tirelessly in the studio, Fred Moni is determined to rise again, reminding everyone that setbacks are only temporary.
