Esther Gyasi’s Story: A Journey of Struggles, Loss, and Survival Abroad

Esther, who now lives in Germany and works at Amazon, shared her heartbreaking journey during an interview on Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami.

From her early days growing up with her grandmother in Ghana to her struggles with social services taking her children abroad, Esther’s life has been filled with challenges.

Born into a difficult situation, Esther was raised by her grandmother after being abandoned as a 6-month-old baby.

Her grandmother picked her up from a police station when she was just six months old, and Esther grew up without knowing her parents.

She finally met her mother at age 20 and her father shortly afterward, but both relationships were strained.

While living in Ghana, Esther met a young man who later traveled abroad. The relationship blossomed, and they got married.

He helped her migrate to Austria in 2001, but the marriage quickly turned abusive.

Esther described frequent fights, neglect, and emotional abuse, which led to social services intervening and taking her two children.

Despite DNA tests proving the children were hers and her husband’s, social services refused to return them, citing her lack of a stable job and her husband’s false reports against her.

Desperate to get her children back, Esther moved to Italy, worked tirelessly, and eventually remarried an older man, hoping he would help her reclaim her kids.

However, this marriage also ended in heartbreak, leaving her with four more children.

Despite building a life abroad, including working, raising her new family, and even completing projects in Ghana, Esther admits she remains deeply unhappy.

Her two eldest children, now 24 and 21, grew up in foster care in Italy, and their foster family even changed their names.

Although she keeps in touch with them, she feels the bond between them has been lost.

Reflecting on her life, Esther shared how her struggles with her parents, abusive relationships, and separation from her children have shaped her.

Despite everything, she continues to work hard, having built her own house in Ghana, but she still battles emotional pain and regrets.

Key Highlights of Esther’s Story:

  • Abandonment: Raised by her grandmother after being abandoned by her parents at six months old.
  • Migration Abroad: Married a man who helped her move to Europe but suffered years of abuse in the marriage.
  • Loss of Children: Italian social services took away her two children 20 years ago, and she hasn’t fully reconnected with them.
  • Failed Relationships: Remarried an older man who eventually left her with four more children.
  • Resilience: Despite her struggles, Esther works at Amazon and has built a home in Ghana, but she continues to seek happiness and closure.

Her story is a testament to the challenges many migrants face and the resilience it takes to overcome them. However, for Esther, the loss of her children remains a wound that time hasn’t healed.
