Dr. Owusu Agyekum Exposes COS Scams and Advises Ghanaians to Avoid Fraudulent Agents
Dr. Owusu Agyekum, a well-known Ghanaian TikToker and social commentator, has raised alarms about the growing issue of Certificate of Sponsorship (COS) scams that are duping many Ghanaians seeking to relocate abroad, particularly to the UK.
In his recent statements, he warned against falling victim to fraudulent agents, emphasizing that COS is entirely free when acquired through legitimate channels.

Dr. Agyekum revealed shocking details about agents who exploit unsuspecting individuals by charging exorbitant fees for COS.
He cited instances of people paying sums like £18,000 to £20,000 only to arrive in the UK and find themselves jobless or forced into low-paying, part-time roles.
He highlighted cases where visas were canceled because applicants could not meet the stringent conditions tied to the COS.
“People sell their homes and possessions to pay for COS, only to end up miserable and stranded abroad,” he stated. “One man sold his house for £26,000 to relocate with his wife, only to discover the promises made by the agent were false.”
Dr. Agyekum explained that those who research COS and apply directly through genuine companies often succeed, while those who purchase COS from agents struggle.
“Many of these agents are illiterate but target educated professionals like teachers, nurses, and soldiers. They know victims cannot easily report fraud committed outside the UK,” he said.
He added that fraudulent agents mislead people into believing they will secure high-paying jobs. Instead, they end up working minimal hours or not working at all.
“When you buy someone else’s COS, you will come to the UK and never make it,” he warned.
Dr. Agyekum recounted heartbreaking stories of people duped by COS scams. In one case, a pregnant woman had her license revoked shortly after arriving in the UK because the agent failed to disclose the risks.
Faced with no options, she considered terminating her pregnancy, which almost cost her marriage.
Additionally, he called out individuals like TikTok influencer Kaakyire, accusing her of defrauding people of £140,000, £35,000, and other significant amounts under the guise of providing COS.
Dr. Agyekum stressed that legitimate companies in the UK sponsor applicants, covering travel costs and other expenses.
He urged people to take the time to apply for COS themselves online instead of relying on intermediaries.
“Sit at your computer and research companies offering COS sponsorships. It is free, and you will avoid being scammed,” he advised.
For those considering paying huge sums for COS, Dr. Agyekum suggested investing in Ghana instead.
“With £18,000 or £20,000, you can establish a profitable business back home rather than gambling your future on fraudulent promises,” he noted.
Dr. Agyekum’s message serves as a wake-up call for Ghanaians eager to work abroad. His candid advice underscores the importance of diligence, research, and caution when pursuing opportunities in foreign countries.
“Stop buying COS; it’s not the best option,” he concluded. “If you plan carefully, you can achieve success without falling victim to scams.”
