US-based Ghanaian Lon Don shared an intriguing story about how his Black American wife found out about his salary and asked him to quit his teaching job to pursue his dream of being a business owner.
In an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa, Lon Don disclosed how their partnership reshaped his career. Initially working as a teacher in Ghana, Lon Don earned a modest monthly salary of Ghs700. This financial aspect of his life prompted his wife (then girlfriend) to intervene significantly.
“We visited a restaurant once and the food cost almost GHS2000. I almost cried when I saw the bill and when she asked I told her that the bill was my three months’ pay. Later that day, she asked me to quit,” he said on Daily Hustle Worldwide.
Before they even began their romantic relationship, she gifted him a car, to show her commitment and support. Once she learned about his salary, she encouraged him to leave his teaching job. She established a gym studio to manage, which allowed him to thrive and cultivate his skills in a new domain.
After living together for a year in Ghana, Lon Don’s wife began the immigration process for him to move to the US. According to Lon Don, he did not spend a single cedi from his pocket; his wife sponsored his trip to the US.
