Marilyn, a Ghanaian based in Germany shared her experience living in Ghana with her older brother for 10 years without parental control and the effects it had on her.

In a chat on Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami, Marilyn revealed that her mother brought her to Ghana at age 8 while she lived and worked in Germany. Marilyn and her brother were enrolled in boarding school and lived at home with house help during vacations.

Marilyn’s first relationship was at age 12 and she broke her virginity at age 13. According to her, “I had too much freedom.” Marilyn believes she may not have made such choices if her mother was around.

“I got pregnant at 14 years and she found out. She went through stress because of me. She brought us down to learn the culture but it did not help me. I’m firm in terms of character and she put me in boarding school because she couldn’t control me.

I got pregnant again in the first year of high school. My mom wanted to abort it, so I requested to return to Germany. I returned in 2007 at 17 years old. I could not complete high school,” she narrated.

Marilyn added that her relationship with her mother was affected. She moved out of her home at 19 due to a misunderstanding. Marilyn gave birth at 21 and currently has four kids.

“I didn’t have a bond with my mother. I wouldn’t blame my mom but I try to create that environment for my kids.”
