US-based Ghanaian businessman Mr Ed Asante shared his story on how the late JJ Rawlings chased him out of Ghana in the 1980s at age 22 leaving behind his business.

In an interview on Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami, Mr Asante disclosed that he met the CEO of KOWUS Motors, Mr Kofi Owusu and started a business with his help at 19. By 22, ED Asante owned a fast-growing business buying and selling cars cross-country.

When Mr Kofi Owusu (KOWUS Motors) fled the country to escape the claws of Rawlings, Mr Asante had no choice but to leave because of his strong ties with Mr Owusu.

“I was a middleman for KOWUS. We bought cars from Togo and sold them in Abidjan. I employed many workers but I had to leave shortly after KOWUS fled. That was how I got to the US. I met KOWUS on a flight to the UK and our relationship grew from there,” he recounted.

Mr Ed Asante pursued a course in Radiology and worked in the medical field for 28 years. He is a former Board of Directors for Radiology member before his early retirement. Mr Asante’s mother was the Miss Ghana in 1958 and his father was in Ministry.
