Frederick Ameyaw, a Ghanaian living in the US, described his early years abroad as embarrassing and felt dehumanised due to the struggles he faced.

During an interview with Daily Hustle Worldwide, Frederick revealed that he once attended a wedding of someone he had a crush on, hoping to enjoy the food. However, he ended up leaving the wedding on an empty stomach. Frederick’s struggles began after his uncle threw him out of his house.

“I had nowhere to stay after my uncle threw me out. Someone found a place for me. That’s where my problems started. It was a rat-infested room, and I moved after five years.

A female friend took me in but later sacked me because I refused to sleep in her room. I cried for over two hours after I returned from the wedding. I would never wish my experience on anyone. I felt less of a human.”

According to Frederick, things began to look up soon after he met his ex-wife. Mr Ameyaw added that he grew tired of living abroad and returned to Ghana in 2018.

“While in Ghana, I got my current job and relocated to the US. Only 5% of Ghanaians abroad are rich and comfortable. The majority of us are just surviving, but Ghanaians back home often think we are rich,” he noted.
