“My girlfriend got the chance to go to the US on a visa lottery ticket, but I convinced her to stay. We were not married then. I told her we could also make it in Ghana and that she should marry me if she loved me. And she stayed.

A month after our wedding, I won the US visa lottery. I had registered a while ago and even forgot about it. At first, she opposed the idea, but the agent convinced her I could bring her here within six months. So she agreed.”

It took Pilato four years to bring her wife and kids to the US. Speaking on life in the US, Pilato indicated he planned on returning to Ghana after five years but failed at it. He explained that the US system is built on keeping citizens in the country.
