US-based Ghanaian lesbian Nessa has urged Ghanaians to focus on the forthcoming elections and leave LGBTQ members alone.

Speaking on SVTV Africa with DJ Nyaami, Nessa said that passing the bill into law will not solve Ghana’s ever-growing problems and asserted that the bill is just a scheme to distract the citizens of Ghana.

“I’ve been following the stories on LGBTQ in Ghana since 2020. I’m not surprised but you know this year is an election year and you must focus on getting what you want for the country and economy. Why is the main focus LGBTQ when you are in an election? What do they do that prevents you from getting food, light and water?

In an election year when you should focus on getting something better for your country, you’re focused on innocent people who want to live their lives. It is unfortunate and people are being put in danger. They’ll be harmed for no reason. What do you gain from it,” Nessa quizzed.

Nessa added that she will visit Ghana even if the bill is passed because Ghana is her home. Nessa moved to the US at 15 to join her mother. According to her, the US gave her the freedom to be herself and explore her sexuality.

“I will visit Ghana whenever I want. I am who I am. I kept it a secret once and I’ll never do it again. I want to die as who I am.”
