British-Ghanaian Afia stated that she visited Ghana for the second time in 2021 and thought £1000 would be enough for a month, but she ended up spending it all in a day.

Speaking on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Afia mentioned that the Ghana she saw on social media was quite different from what she experienced while in Ghana. According to Afia, she thought Ghana had developed significantly.

“Immediately I landed at the airport, people started begging me for money. I was so confused. The roads felt like a roller coaster. I saw people selling on the streets. This was not the Ghana I saw on social media.

I was a little disappointed. People may think I’m a fool, but the first time in Ghana was when I was six, so I didn’t remember anything. I thought Ghana had developed or was at the same level as the UK,” she stated.

Besides the disappointment in the level of growth, Afia also mentioned that the cost of living was also on the rise. Afia revealed that she spent over £7000 within a month in Ghana.

“I brought £1000 and it was finished within a day. It was GHS8000 in 2021, but it has increased now. The hotel I stayed in took half of the money, and I gave people money. My boyfriend had to send me money every week. I spent £7500 at the end of the month.”

Despite Afia’s initial experience, she expressed her love for Ghana and added that she has plans to settle in Ghana someday.
