Germany-based Ghanaian Nana Serwaa Ofori Amanfo shared her story of how her ex-husband exploited her to his advantage and eventually cancelled her documents after paying €11,000.

Nana Serwaa had no plans to travel abroad until her ex-husband convinced her. However, he did not disclose the terms and conditions of bringing her to Europe. In an interview on SVTV Africa, Serwaa mentioned that they were together for five years before joining him in Germany.

“He had to beg me to come to Germany because I was okay in Ghana. I sold the imported items he brought, and the business was good. He sat me down after I arrived in Germany and told me that he brought me here to work for him because he couldn’t work anymore. That was wrong. He should have brought his sister instead.

Five months later, he charged me €7000 for bringing me. Meanwhile, my salary was being paid into his account. I asked about the money, and he said I had no money left with him. In the end, I paid €11,000 instead of €7,000. He charged me for everything in the house, including his car maintenance,” she told DJ Nyaami.

According to Nana Serwaa, her ex-husband exploited her because she could not understand or read the German language. She recounted how her ex-husband threw her out of his house for refusing to sign a document.

“He threw me out several times. I had to sleep at train stations. He cancelled my documents after a neighbour reported me to the police. I didn’t know about it until his friend informed me.”
