Ghanaian American Kevin Darbo revealed that he left his parent’s home at 14 years old, was arrested for robbery two years later and expressed regrets for not heeding his mother’s advice.
In an interview on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Kevin mentioned that he dropped out of school and left the house because his parents didn’t allow him to pursue music. However, that decision brought him more pain than he anticipated.
“When you’re young, you may not understand that your parents care about you, but they want you to use your time wisely. I dropped out of high school. I didn’t think it would help me. I wanted to write and compose music, but my Ghanaian parents didn’t understand me.
So I left at 15 years old to live with friends. I got my freedom now and started smoking, drinking and the girls. At 16, I was arrested for robbing a house and taken to the juvenile detention centre. Even through all that, my parents have with me. They were the ones I called after I was arrested.”
Kevin’s decision to live with friends cost him a lot, but he will not blame his friends for the choices he made. The 27-year-old added that he realised his Ghanaian parents loved him, but he thought otherwise.
