Germany-based Ghanaian Richard Opoku disclosed that he owned a business in Ghana but became homeless in Italy for about six years before he got a working permit.

Richard mentioned that gay men offered to pay him for sex. In an interview on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Richard revealed that despite his successful business in Ghana, he had to travel because his brother (in Italy) had chosen him.

“Travelling abroad was never a priority because I was okay with what I had in Ghana. My family would have called me a fool if I had rejected the chance. I was undocumented for about six years with no job or home.

I regretted it because I was comfortable with my business back home, but I was sleeping outside. Men approached me for sex in exchange for cash, but I rejected them. I had to start life all over again,” he recounted.

Mr Opoku mentioned that he was detained for a while in Italy but his skills got him a permit to work for a year. Eventually, an Italian man adopted Richard for him to get a permanent stay permit.

“Aside from my brother bringing me to Italy, outsiders have helped me more than family members. I took the chance to learn the language, and it helped me,” Richard added.
