Canada-based Ghanaian Pearl Doudo stated that her ex-husband became uncomfortable with her skin condition and didn’t want to be seen with her in public.
Speaking on SVTV AFRICA with DJ Nyaami, Pearl indicated that her ex-husband was okay with her skin condition (vitiligo) until they migrated to Canada. However, it spread to her whole body after they moved.
“We were on and off for months, but we stayed together. I wanted to keep the marriage for our children’s sake because divorce affects them the most. We’ve still not finalised the divorce, but we don’t live anymore.
I realised the love wasn’t there anymore because it seemed my best wasn’t enough for him. I thought my skin condition was a problem for him because he was always in the lead or far behind and never beside me when we were in public. He felt uncomfortable,” she said.
Moreover, her ex-husband’s niece made an offensive comment about her skin condition, but he did not reprimand her. This confirmed her initial sentiments about her husband.
“His 25-year-old niece said I have burnt skin. She even called me a pig, but no one rebuked her. It hurt me a lot,” Pearl added.
