Germany-based Ghanaian Daniel Okoh has revealed that he felt depressed for years after leaving Nigeria for greener pastures.

In a chat on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Daniel indicated that he stayed in a refugee camp for five years and described it as hell. Daniel stated that life became difficult for him.

“I got tired of the situation while in camp. I felt like my friends in Africa were doing better than me. I could see that they were better than me. I started getting depressed and losing my dreams.

It felt like I was helping my boss to achieve his dream. It was tough because it was not what I planned. Life was just work-home-sleep, and Germans were not sociable. Those five years felt like hell,” he said.

Daniel told SVTV AFRICA’s DJ Nyaami that he realised that living in camp caused his depression. According to him, 99% of Africans living abroad have depression and are managing it. He advised Africans against travelling abroad.

“A rich man in Africa becomes a poor man here. People have sold their lands and properties to travel, and ended up depressed. 99% of diasporas have depression. A man driving a ‘trotro’ in Ghana is better than someone staying here. His wife is always waiting for him. He pays rent yearly and doesn’t stress as much.”
