USA-based Ghanaian Owusu Nyantakyi shared his journey from Brazil through several Central American countries to the USA.
In an interview on Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami, Owusu revealed that he worked as a middleman who bought and imported cars from Japan for Ghanaian customers. However, his Japanese business duped him millions. As a result, Owusu had to flee Ghana to work and pay off his debt.
Mr Nyantakyi tried several embassies and finally got a visa to Brazil, and stayed with some Ghanaians in Sao Paolo. A few days later, he flew to Nicaragua, where his road trip to the USA began.
“I met two other Ghanaians (man, woman) when I arrived in Nicaragua. They were making the trip to the US too. The locals in the country duped us on our way to Honduras. Finally, we arrived, booked a motel and spent the night. The next day, we continued the journey to Guatemala.
A man connected us to another agent who led us through the bush for about three hours to Choluteca (Honduras). From there, we boarded a bus to the border and spent a whole day on the road. Armed robbers shot at us, but they missed.”
When they arrived at the border, My Nyantakyi added that they were led by a local through a bush to Guatemala, but they were deported back to Honduras and had to walk back to Guatemala again.
“We walked for about three hours and hopped on a truck to a city in Guatemala. Eventually, we paid agents to lead people to Mexico. It was an 18-hour journey to the camp. I had to sleep at a dumping site while waiting to be transported. We all slept there because if you leave, you’re on your own,” he added.
Owusu shared more about his journey to Mexico. He disclosed that the toughest part of the journey was from Mexico to the US.
