A Ghanaian woman based in London, identified as Angela, has shared a distressing account of her life in the United Kingdom, detailing years of alleged emotional abuse, family conflict, and a painful separation from her child.
According to Angela, she grew up without ever meeting her father until later in life when she finally traced his family. Upon reconnecting, she relocated to the UK to live with him after he reportedly sponsored her move.
Speaking in an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide show, Angela recounted how she grew up without knowing her father until later in life, when she eventually traced his family. According to her, her father—who was already living in the UK—facilitated her relocation after they reconnected.
Angela explained that while living in the UK, she took up a job as a cleaner, where she met a white British man who initially became a friend and would often invite her out. Despite her father’s strong disapproval of their relationship, the two eventually became romantically involved, leading to tensions that resulted in Angela being disowned by her father.
She later returned to Ghana, but maintained contact with the man, who visited her multiple times. The relationship progressed, and he eventually performed her marriage rites and brought her back to the UK in 2003, where they formalised their union in court.
However, Angela alleges that the marriage soon turned controlling. She claims her husband took advantage of her vulnerable situation, particularly because she had no close family support in the UK. She further stated that he handled financial matters, including benefits and housing, without her involvement, leaving her excluded from major decisions.
The situation worsened after the birth of their child. Angela alleges that her husband used their son against her during disputes and controlled access to social benefits, including child support payments. She also claims her name was not included on tenancy agreements despite contributing to their living arrangements.
In a troubling turn, Angela says she lost custody of her son following court proceedings in the UK. She alleges that her husband and his family influenced the situation, and she has since been denied access to her child. According to her, she was warned that any attempt to contact or approach her son could result in imprisonment.
Angela further claims she has faced harassment and isolation, alleging that neighbours have been influenced against her and that her movements have been monitored. She also expressed concern about being labelled mentally unstable, which she strongly denies.
Despite these challenges, Angela says she has made efforts to rebuild her life, including returning to school, even while dealing with what she describes as a learning disability.
Her story highlights ongoing concerns about the vulnerability of migrants in foreign countries, particularly in cases involving relationships, legal systems, and child custody disputes
