Maame Yaa Kisiwaa, also known as VirginladyTV, has shared her experience of living abroad and the challenges she faced before returning to Ghana.
She revealed that she was in Dubai when tensions escalated in the Middle East. “I had already booked my return ticket to Ghana, so I just changed the date amid the flight suspensions,” she explained. Although she had a resident permit to work in Dubai, she decided to leave due to the uncertainty and stress caused by the conflict. “It was my first time experiencing something like this—I was very anxious and couldn’t sleep,” she added.
A trained journalist and former school poet, Maame Yaa said she had come to Dubai to earn capital for her business in Ghana. “I sell products when I travel—I buy, deliver, and sell them myself, mostly clothing. I had a project underway, but it’s currently on hold,” she shared in an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Ghana.
She also revealed other skills she has, including sewing wigs and a passion for cleaning, which she considered turning into a business in Ghana. However, due to limited funds, she plans to travel to Germany to work in cleaning services to support her ventures.
Maame Yaa also spoke about her personal life and societal pressures regarding marriage. She recounted her brief marriage to a man from Madrid, who had come to Ghana claiming he was single. “He told me it was a contract marriage, but I later found out he was married in the U.S. He portrayed himself as God-fearing to convince me to marry him, but he hid his real character,” she explained. Their marriage lasted only three months and ended over the phone.
Despite these challenges, Maame Yaa remains focused and independent. “I’m okay being single. I stay focused on my goals and my work,” she said, emphasizing her determination to build a business and a stable future in Ghana.
Her story highlights the struggles many face as young Ghanaians navigate work abroad, societal expectations, and personal relationships while striving to create a better life back home.
