Kofi, who spent many years living abroad, particularly in Brazil and South Korea, has opened up about his journey and decision to return to Ghana.
In an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Gh show, Kofi opened up about his life abroad and his decision to return to Ghana.
Having been raised in Brazil, Kofi built a life overseas and worked hard to establish himself. However, his desire to reconnect with his roots and oversee projects he had started in Ghana pushed him to make the difficult decision to return home. He also wanted to reconnect with family members he hadn’t seen in over a decade and understand how things were progressing back home.
Reflecting on his time abroad, Kofi admitted that life outside Ghana is not always as perfect as many believe. Despite having opportunities, he explained that foreigners are constantly reminded that they do not truly belong, regardless of their documentation or how long they stay. He also revealed that he witnessed several Ghanaians being deported from South Korea, which further changed his perspective about living abroad.
According to him, many people think living abroad guarantees a better life, but the reality can be very different. He described the lack of social life and sense of belonging as major challenges. These experiences made him realize that settling in Ghana and building something locally could be more fulfilling.
After saving for seven years, Kofi finally bought his ticket and returned to Ghana. Although he admits that life in Ghana comes with its own financial challenges and uncertainties, he believes it is still possible to succeed by starting small and managing resources wisely.
Kofi also shared a personal part of his story, revealing that he once brought a Ghanaian woman to Brazil, but their relationship has since ended. Now, he finds himself alone, despite having family in Brazil and none in Ghana.
Today, Kofi is determined to stay in Ghana permanently and only travel abroad for visits. For him, Ghana is home, and he is focused on building a future there, no matter the challenges.
