Jones Oppong Atuahene, originally from Asuami in Ghana’s Eastern Region, is now based in the Czech Republic. He recently appeared on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami. He shared his journey of moving to the Czech Republic in September 2024, explaining that while it wasn’t easy, having the right information can help others take advantage of opportunities without wasting time.
Jones explained that he came to study, but initially, he struggled to find guidance. He noticed people who had completed master’s degrees abroad but didn’t share their paths or information publicly. This prompted him to conduct his own research. In 2022, he took a course through TheBuk, earning an MBA and completing the first semester after paying his fees, which was challenging. Because no one was helping him travel, he decided to take the initiative himself, following a program he loved.
He spent £5,000 on the program, and through further research, including using ChatGPT, he discovered key steps for success: learning the Czech language, finding a job after school, and eventually qualifying for permanent residence after five years. The country allows residents to work locally, and after ten years, one can even obtain citizenship.
Jones also noted that the cost of living in the Czech Republic is low, with about €500 covering all expenses including accommodation, food, and transport. Interestingly, when he visited Ghana, he found that the return flight ticket was cheaper than his initial trip to the Czech Republic.
