Anastasia, the sister of George Bentuo, the security man who was stabbed to death by an ex-convict, has shared details of the family’s ordeal in an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide Show.
She revealed that the family initially wanted to bury George immediately, in accordance with Islamic customs, but authorities advised them to postpone the burial. As a result, the funeral has been rescheduled for Friday, February 6.
According to Anastasia, the viewing will take place on Friday night at RNR Rose & Golden Funeral Home, located on Gun Hill Road, Bronx, New York 10467, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Pastors, family members, friends, and anyone who wishes to speak or pray in memory of George are invited to attend.
After the viewing, the family will proceed to a traditional funeral ceremony at 1211 Brook Avenue, Bronx, New York 10456.
She further disclosed that George’s body will be flown to Ghana on Monday, where he will be laid to rest at Adansi Dompase, his hometown.
Anastasia said their elderly mother will travel to the United States for the funeral. The grieving mother has been unable to sleep or function properly since receiving the devastating news of her son’s death. After the funeral rites in the U.S., the entire family will return to Ghana together for the final burial.
On the legal side, Anastasia disclosed that the lawyers of the accused have admitted that their client is guilty, although he claims he did not know George personally. The family has also been informed that they will not be allowed to take photographs of the suspect.
She stated that the family will appear in court on February 3, accompanied by representatives from the Ghana Consulate. While prosecutors are reportedly considering a 25-year sentence or life imprisonment, the family is demanding a life sentence, insisting that the killer should remain in prison for the rest of his life.
Anastasia also addressed false allegations circulating on social media, claiming that George’s girlfriend and his children’s mother conspired with others to have him killed. She firmly denied the claims and warned that the individual behind the accusation must take down the video immediately or face legal action. The family, she said, is determined to identify anyone who may have been involved in contracting the attacker.
George Bentuo is survived by two children, aged 19 and 17, with a woman he never married. Anastasia confirmed that their mother filed travel documents for all of them, and they arrived in the United States on the same day.
The family continues to call for justice, while appealing to the public for prayers, respect, and support during this difficult time.
