Chrispin, a Ghanaian currently based in Belgium, has shared his life journey and migration experience after appearing on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide show.

Before leaving Ghana, Chrispin worked as a broadcast journalist. His career path later took him outside the country, beginning with a one-year stay in Turkey where he taught English. He then moved to South Africa, spending about two years there. While in South Africa, he lived mainly in Cape Town, which he described as relatively safer compared to cities like Johannesburg. At the time, he expected a smooth life abroad with minimal hardship, especially while living with his former partner.

From South Africa, Chrispin relocated to Belgium, a move that marked a major turning point in his life. Upon arrival, he enrolled in a care-related course that lasted one year. During his training and internship, he was advised to improve his language skills, as fluency in the local language was essential for effective communication at work. Although he was not fluent at the time, he made deliberate efforts to learn Dutch. Two years on, his language skills have significantly improved compared to when he first arrived.

After completing his studies, Chrispin transitioned into the logistics sector, where he currently works. He is also employed at the airport, a role he continues to hold. He noted that many job opportunities exist across Europe, especially in logistics and warehouse work, but language barriers often limit access to better roles, particularly in Eastern Europe.

Chrispin emphasized that language remains one of the biggest challenges for many Ghanaians living in Europe. According to him, many migrants struggle not because of lack of ability, but due to limited language skills and unwillingness to research opportunities thoroughly. He believes many Ghanaians have hidden talents that could be developed if they invested time in learning the language and understanding the system, rather than focusing solely on warehouse jobs as a quick means of survival.

On social life abroad, Chrispin explained that integration can be difficult. While he is generally open and friendly with people, he does not have many close friends. He attributes this partly to cultural differences and language limitations. He also touched on relationships abroad, noting that compromise is essential when couples live together in foreign environments.

Regarding his personal life, Chrispin shared that he is currently single and still searching for a life partner, expressing hope of getting married soon. Despite the challenges, he continues to navigate life abroad with resilience and self-improvement as his guiding principles.

Chrispin’s story highlights the realities of migration, stressing that success abroad requires patience, adaptability, language acquisition, and a willingness to grow beyond survival jobs.
