Emotional Reunion: Family Finds Long-Lost Daughter Mawusi in Afoiga After Years of Separation
After years of separation and uncertainty, a Ghanaian family has finally reunited with their long-lost daughter, Mawusi, in Afoiga, a town in the Volta Region. The reunion, filled with tears and emotion, marked the end of a long and painful search.
According to Mawunyo, Mawusi had been missing for several years, and efforts to locate her had previously yielded no results. The breakthrough came after relatives sent her pictures to residents in Afoiga, hoping someone would recognize her. Their efforts paid off when locals confirmed that a woman matching her description was living with a man in the area and had a child.
Upon visiting the man’s family home, Mawusi’s mother and relatives were warmly received. When they finally came face-to-face with Mawusi, emotions ran high. Witnesses described the moment as deeply moving, as Mawusi broke down in tears upon seeing her mother—whom she had believed was dead.
“She cried uncontrollably when she saw our mother,” one family member recounted. “She said she thought our mother had passed away and had no idea how to find us.”
Mawusi reportedly told her family that after attending her father’s funeral years ago, she was misinformed that her mother had died and that her sibling had traveled abroad. After completing Junior High School, she lost all contact with her relatives.
Her sibling, who led the search effort, revealed that the family spent over GH₵2,000 in the process of tracing her whereabouts. “It wasn’t easy, but it was worth every cedi to bring her back,” they said, adding that their mother had continued to request money for medication even during the search.
Following the reunion, Mawusi’s sibling has returned to Accra and plans to learn a trade with her. The family expressed gratitude to everyone who helped them reconnect and said they are hopeful about reuniting with their other relatives soon.
The story has since touched many online, serving as a powerful reminder of the emotional toll of family separation and the joy of reunion after years apart.
