From Italy to Ghana: Maame Yaa Shares Her Inspiring Journey of Family, Faith, and Entrepreneurship
After spending nine years in Italy, Ghanaian entrepreneur Maame Yaa, now the CEO of Nature Insta Yam Foods, has returned home to build a new life for herself and her family.
In an interview, Maame Yaa revealed that her decision to relocate permanently to Ghana was driven by her children’s happiness and future. “My husband’s work schedule changed, and it became difficult for me to travel with him. I stayed back to take care of our three children. When we came to Ghana for a short visit, the kids were so happy that they said they didn’t want to go back to Italy,” she shared.
While her husband has since returned to Italy for work, Maame Yaa and the children have settled in Ghana since June. She says the transition has been smooth and fulfilling. “I lived comfortably in Italy for years. My husband provided for everything, and my family back home was doing well, so I never really struggled. But I realized that the children’s future is brighter here in Ghana,” she said.
Recalling one of the challenges she faced abroad, Maame Yaa mentioned that her eldest child had difficulty adapting to school. “He was the only Black child in his class, and he became afraid of his teacher. It even affected his confidence. That’s when I decided to move to the UK or return to Ghana instead,” she explained.
Now fully settled in Ghana, Maame Yaa has ventured into entrepreneurship, running Nature Insta Yam Foods and selling products such as fruit juice, Tom Brown, white vinegar, and eggs. “Business is picking up gradually,” she said with a smile. “I used to work with MTN, but I’ve decided not to go back to corporate work. I want to manage my own business and handle my finances wisely.”
Her story is one of courage and adaptation—choosing family over comfort and turning a new chapter through determination and innovation. “Ghana has been good to us,” she concluded. “This is where my children belong, and I’m happy we came back home.”
