Big Apple, a Ghanaian based in London, has previously mentioned his plans to return home permanently to invest and establish businesses in Ghana — a goal he has now fulfilled by opening several shops.

In a recent interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide Show, he revealed that depression is taking a serious toll on many Africans living abroad. According to him, some people claim they stay overseas because of their children’s future, but that’s not always the case.

“When I was abroad, I used to work like a horse — sometimes 24 hours a day. If we could work that hard for the white man, why can’t we put the same effort into our own businesses back home?” he said.

Big Apple explained that despite earning around $2,000 to £3,000 monthly, the cost of living and deductions left him with very little. “After everything, what remains is too small,” he added.

He decided to return to Ghana after battling mental health issues and witnessing how common illnesses like stroke and cancer have become among Africans abroad.

“No sickness abroad allows you to stand tall — only by God’s grace can you survive,” he said.

He further noted that many Africans abroad would return home if given the chance but are afraid, thinking life in Ghana might be harder or even fatal.

Now back in Ghana, Big Apple has launched his own television brand — Big Apple Television — and is inviting businesspeople to contact him for wholesale deals.

“We focus on wholesale, not retail,” he explained. “I plan to open more branches across other cities. I pay my workers GHC 3,000 monthly on a three-month contract. If you make a mistake, I won’t renew your contract. The whites don’t pressure themselves, and neither should we.”
