Elvis, Ghanaian Journalist in Germany, Shares His Journey on SVTV Africa
Elvis, a Ghanaian currently based in Germany, recently appeared on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide show with DJ Nyaami, where he shared his migration story and career journey.
According to Elvis, he relocated to Germany just a year ago after nearly three decades of practicing journalism in Ghana. “I worked in the media for 20years, starting from the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Obonu FM, and later at Citi FM. Over time, I became tired of the stress that came with journalism in Ghana,” he explained.
He revealed that while some of his colleagues in journalism acquired properties and traveled the world, others struggled to make ends meet. The frustrations of dealing with corruption and bribery in the system also weighed heavily on him. “I never overlooked bad practices. I dedicated my time to doing my work with integrity, but the stress was overwhelming,” he said.
Now in Germany, Elvis has enrolled in school and is determined to build a new path. He believes that with the right mindset, one can succeed anywhere. “When you come to Germany, give yourself time. I’m a student, but even within this short period, I’ve realized that the same money people make here can be invested to build a house in Ghana. If you discover your niche, you’ll know exactly what to do,” he advised.
Elvis also highlighted the importance of ideas over money. “Abroad gives you exposure. It’s not just about cash—you get ideas that can transform businesses back home. Even with just ₵10,000, you can start something if you apply the knowledge you’ve gained. Personally, I received support from someone who followed my Facebook blogging and sponsored me with €10,000,” he revealed.
On the subject of inheritance, Elvis offered a strong opinion: “Fathers shouldn’t necessarily leave properties for their children. Instead, they should provide them with opportunities and skills so they can create their own wealth.”
He concluded by stating that while he plans to stay in Germany after school, he still sees potential in doing business in Ghana with the ideas and experience he has gained abroad.
