Samuel is currently in Albania after selling his plot of land in Ghana to pursue greener pastures.
In an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide show, he shared that he was working as a driver in Ghana when a friend told him about an Albania connection. Initially, the friend mentioned Moldova for €2,500, and Samuel considered selling his two plots of land. The two plots were valued at about GHC 40,000.
He paid the agents GHC60,000 who booked his ticket, arranged his training, and even picked them up upon arrival in Albania. The next day, they sat in a car for four to five hours to see the workplace. He started working in a warehouse, but the work was too hard, and the supervisors complained he couldn’t complete assignments. Samuel recorded a video of the warehouse and the tasks and sent it to the agent. He was told he had to finish a one-year contract.
Before leaving Ghana, he was promised €820 a month, and the agent claimed Albania was part of the Schengen area, so he could easily travel to Italy or other European countries. However, in reality, the job pays €500 a month. Although they rented a house for them, they have to pay for transport and food themselves.
Since arriving, Samuel has only received two paychecks. He was advised to take a ferry to Italy, but it’s much harder than he thought, and even Albanians are trying to escape to other European countries. Samuel says they are just two Ghanaians there—one man and one woman.
In total, it cost him around GHC 60,000 to come to Albania, but the woman who lent him the money actually only gave about GHC 20,000.
