Nana Akua, a Ghanaian woman living in London, UK, appeared on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide Show with DJ Nyaami to share her frustration after bringing a man from Ghana to the UK — only for him to abandon her.
According to Nana Akua, her busy work schedule left her feeling lonely, so she decided to marry someone from Ghana and bring him to the UK. A close friend introduced her to her brother, and after months of long-distance conversations, she flew to Ghana to hold the marriage ceremony and began processing his documents. Within three months, in 2023, her new husband joined her in the UK.
Nana Akua picked him up from the airport and took him to get his biometric residence card, but he never showed it to her. She later discovered he was secretly getting advice from his sister — who had lived in the UK before — on how to apply for a National Insurance number and other documents without involving her.
From the start, their marriage had problems. He never slept with her because he was impotent — something he already knew before marriage but hid from her. A traditional healer even confirmed he had known about his condition since high school. Nana Akua had hoped they could solve the issue, but he eventually admitted he had no emotional connection to her and had only married her to move abroad.
Over time, he became distant. When she refused to give him £1,000 to process his documents, tensions grew. He would often leave home when she was at work and return late. Eventually, he announced he was moving out, found a job in another city, and began visiting only on weekends. He later admitted that his only intention was to use her to relocate to the UK.
Nana Akua now wants to know how to legally remove him from her documents and proceed with a divorce. She explained that she had chosen him partly because he had no children from previous relationships, unlike other men she met in the UK. However, since the marriage, his family — including his mother — has not reached out to her. She believes his actions were calculated from the start, pointing out that he even changed his bank address after leaving her home.
She concluded that if not for helping him with his documents, she would never have married him. Now, she is ready to initiate divorce proceedings and send back the traditional marriage drinks to his family.
