Sweet Akua, a UK-based Ghanaian, Returns to SVTV Africa to Share Her Evolving Views on Love, Marriage, and Life Abroad
Sweet Akua, a Ghanaian living in the United Kingdom, made a return appearance on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide show with DJ Nyaami. She shared that after her first interview, she received overwhelming support and encouragement from viewers who found her story inspiring.
Reflecting on her past, Akua admitted that growing up, she was highly selective when it came to relationships. She wasn’t well-educated at the time and believed that being with an educated man would secure her future. Influenced by her grandfather’s advice that one relationship might not work out, she focused solely on finding educated partners — a decision she now sees as overly restrictive.
“I’ve learned a lot from my past,” she said. “Now, I no longer prioritize money. If you meet a man when he’s struggling and love him genuinely, he’ll remember you when he succeeds. What I value most now is respect.”
Akua emphasized that she wouldn’t pursue a relationship with any man who is already married. Having been married before, she understands the pain and loneliness that can come from being in a broken marriage. “If a man says he loves me but expects sex before helping me, then it’s not love — it’s lust,” she stated firmly.
She also shared her thoughts on humility and respect in relationships.
“Maybe if I had shown more humility and respect in the past, I would have been married again by now,” she confessed. “Ironically, some women who lack these traits still manage to get married, but most men truly seek respect and humility.”
Touching on life abroad, Akua highlighted a trend where some people pretend to be in love just to gain immigration documents.
“For me, it’s not about the papers. If a man shows me genuine love, I’ll stay with him — regardless of documents. I just want someone who will truly stay with me.”
She also pointed out how some men, once they obtain their documents, forget about their children back home. “Raising a child alone as a single mother takes nothing but the grace of God,” she concluded.
