Camille Harold, a 21-year-old American born in Virginia, is on a heartfelt mission to reconnect with her roots and find the Ghanaian family she’s never known.
Currently living in Charlottesville, Virginia, Camille recently shared her story on SVTV Africa’s “Connect” show, hoping to trace her biological mother in Ghana. Her birth parents, both Ghanaian nationals, were visiting the U.S. when she was born. Shortly after her birth, they returned to Ghana, and Camille was placed in a closed adoption.
“My biological mother’s name is Christina, and her last name began with ‘M,’” she said during the interview. “I also have a sister named Alexis, who should be about 26 years old now. My father, Jordan, was with the Ghana Police Service. He had other children, but I don’t know his last name. He wasn’t there when I was born.
Despite years of searching — including DNA tests and social media appeals, especially on TikTok — Camille says she’s made little progress.
“It’s been four years of trying with no real leads. Someone saw my TikTok and introduced me to SVTV Africa. I’m hopeful this platform will be the turning point.
Her adoption was closed, meaning very limited details were shared. Camille said the agency had only a brief meeting with her birth mother, leaving behind few clues.
Raised by a single adoptive mother — a former Army servicewoman who now works in the tech industry — Camille speaks gratefully of her upbringing.
“My adoptive mom gave me everything — a good education, unconditional love, and support. She always told me she believed I’d go searching one day, and she shared everything she remembered.”
Now an aspiring artist who also works with children, Camille dreams of one day visiting Ghana to experience the culture she missed out on. “There isn’t much cultural connection here in Virginia. I watch Ghanaian videos, and I’m amazed by the traditions, the schools, and the big statue I’ve seen in photos. Hopefully, I can visit Ghana next year with my family.
Camille still lives with her adoptive mom and their dog. She’s never seen her father and only has one photo of her birth mother — a single thread connecting her to her past.
“I believe I’ll find them someday,” she says with quiet confidence. “I just need the right connection.”
