Popular Tiktoker Kamashii, a popular Ghanaian TikToker based in the United States, recently appeared on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide show with DJ Nyaami to share his thoughts on the current economic situation in Ghana and his experiences abroad.
He began by addressing the rising cost of living in Ghana. “We are really struggling,” Kamashii said. “Even though the dollar has dropped slightly, prices of goods are still high. Drivers have reduced transport fares, but traders and sellers are refusing to lower prices.” He emphasized that if the price of cement and other building materials were reduced, it would be easier for people to construct homes and invest in property.
Kamashii expressed frustration over the high import duties at the port. “I have a car stuck at the harbour because the duties are just too much,” he lamented. “If the dollar ever comes down to 1 GHC, things will be much better for us.” He called on the government to form a special committee to monitor and regulate prices in the markets to bring relief to ordinary citizens.
“We are begging—let’s at least get to 1 dollar = 10 GHC,” he added. “I can’t even sleep. I keep checking the exchange rate constantly. Our salaries haven’t increased, and even those doing double jobs can’t enjoy their money.”
Speaking on his personal life and future plans, Kamashii revealed that he hopes to complete his housing project in Ghana and then spend about six months in the country each year. “I’ll leave my wife behind in the U.S., and if she can’t handle it, I’ll go alone,” he stated. “I was born in Ghana, and I want to be able to come home often.”
Kamashii works in healthcare and described how demanding it can be. “Sometimes my patients can’t even sit up,” he said. “I spend two weeks just working to pay bills. Thankfully, my wife supports me with managing expenses.”
He had high praise for his wife, calling her exceptional. “I’ve never seen anyone like her. When her mother’s property was sold, she gave me $10,000 from her share—even though she didn’t ask for anything in return. All she wants is love and companionship.”
Despite facing fears about not having a child yet, Kamashii remains hopeful. He emphasized the importance of building a future: “You need to build a house. My first house will be rented out, and now my wife wants me to invest in a nightclub project—we plan to call it Gringo Night Club.”
He concluded by stressing the importance of using one’s mind to succeed: “If your brain doesn’t work, your body will suffer.” Kamashii also announced he’s released a new single featuring Wypeel, signaling his continued involvement in music alongside his other ventures.
