Nana Yiadem, a Ghanaian residing in Northampton, UK, recently shared his transformative journey from a troubled youth in Ghana to a more stable life abroad during an interview on SVTV Africa’s “Daily Hustle Worldwide” with DJ Nyaami.
Growing up in Berekum, Bono Region, Nana Yiadem faced numerous challenges. Influenced by peer pressure, he engaged in smoking, alcohol consumption, and other risky behaviors. His lifestyle led to multiple arrests, including an incident where he was mistakenly implicated in a robbery. Despite these setbacks, he recognized the need for change and began to reform his habits, reducing substance use and focusing on personal growth.
Seven years ago, his mother facilitated his relocation to the UK. The journey was arduous, involving a transit through Turkey, but it marked a turning point in his life. Upon arrival, he faced initial hardships, including joblessness and homelessness. However, through determination and support from acquaintances, he secured employment and began to stabilize his life.
In the UK, Nana Yiadem worked diligently, saving enough to purchase land in Ghana. He also started a family, having a child named Grace with his British partner. Despite these achievements, he acknowledges ongoing struggles, including periods of unemployment and the temptation to revert to past habits. Nevertheless, he remains committed to self-improvement and aspires to support his family and community back in Ghana.
Nana Yiadem’s story underscores the complexities of personal transformation. While he has made significant strides, he candidly discusses the challenges of maintaining change and the importance of resilience.
