Dr. Emmanuel, a Ghanaian based in India, shares his experience and updates on helping two fellow Ghanaians who were stranded in Bangladesh. One has already returned to Ghana, while the other is scheduled to leave this week.
In An Interview With DJ Nyaami on Svtv Africa’s Daily hustle Worldwide show Dr. Emmanuel, who has lived in India for two years, says many people questioned his decision to move there, arguing Ghana is better. He explains that while India is not ideal for job seekers, it is a good destination for education, medical treatment, and tourism. The country is highly populated and does not offer attractive job opportunities, especially for foreigners.
He adds that some Nigerians deceive people by bringing them to India under the pretense of jobs, only to leave them stranded. Some end up involved in prostitution or robbery to survive. He estimates there are about 100–150 Ghanaians currently living in India, many facing hardship. According to him, the Ghana Embassy offers little to no assistance to stranded citizens.
Dr. Emmanuel is currently pursuing his master’s degree and plans to leave India once he completes it. He says the salaries in India are low, barely enough to cover daily expenses, forcing many to live hand-to-mouth.
He also criticized the practice of agents deceiving people with promises of green pastures abroad, only to abandon them halfway. Most jobs available are unskilled labor such as construction. Some people refuse to read or research before traveling and fall into the traps of dishonest middlemen.
On the bright side, Dr. Emmanuel notes that one can apply for a Polish visa, Indian dependent visa, or student visa online without needing to visit an embassy. These processes can take as little as 72 hours. He also shared a personal story of someone who unexpectedly flew to Mumbai without informing him and ended up needing help at the airport — help that could have been given if the person had reached out earlier.
He concludes by advising that passing through India to other Asian countries can be one of the cheapest and easiest migration routes.
