Adwoa, a passionate Ghanaian entrepreneur based in North Kaneshie, Accra, is the founder of Red Hot Kitchen, a catering business specializing in both local and continental cuisine. Her menu includes popular dishes such as grilled tilapia, chicken wings, yam chips, waakye, banku, and more—all available via pre-orders and delivery.
Adwoa’s culinary journey began informally in 2019 under the name Claudia’s Kitchen, but she went full-time in 2021 after leaving her banking job. “I worked at the bank until June 2021, but I wanted more time for my family and to pursue something I truly loved,” she explained. Although she never attended catering school, Adwoa credits her grandmother and mother for teaching her how to cook. She also honed her skills through consistent practice and social media inspiration.
With the support of her husband—who was then her boyfriend—and her mother, Adwoa started the business with just GHS 3,500. She began operations from her mother’s home, offering deliveries of basic dishes like yam chips, grilled chicken, and tilapia. Over time, she added event catering for weddings, funerals, and naming ceremonies.
“When I started, my biggest challenge was visibility and attracting customers,” she said. “I used to walk to offices to share flyers.” She struggled with logistics too, especially with unreliable motorbike deliveries. But discovering TikTok two years ago changed everything. Adwoa began creating food content, which brought in more clients. She now uses Uber and Yango for deliveries, which has improved her service quality significantly.
Adwoa emphasized the importance of starting small and being consistent. “I used to cook food just for photos. When someone placed an order, I’d use the payment to buy the ingredients,” she said. Despite initial doubts from her father—who believed in traditional 9-to-5 jobs—he became supportive after seeing the growth of her business and the large funeral and event orders she was receiving.
“Running my own business is far more fulfilling than working in a bank,” she admitted. “The bank salary was never enough. But now I feel in control, and even if I got a job offer, I’d think twice.”
Red Hot Kitchen now operates from Tuesdays to Sundays, with Mondays as her off-day. Adwoa continues to attract both local and international customers, proving that entrepreneurship in Ghana is not only possible but profitable when driven by passion and purpose.
