Daniel Torks: The Ghanaian Entrepreneur Revolutionizing the Bicycle Industry in China

Daniel Torks, a Ghanaian businessman based in China, recently appeared on SVTV Africa’s Business Link as a returning guest, where he shared his inspiring entrepreneurial journey and insights into international business partnerships. Daniel is the founder of Gator Electrics, a company focused on electric bicycles and delivery logistics.

He revealed that after his first interview with SVTV Africa, he gained the interest of an investor, which propelled his business forward.

“There are Ghanaians who truly understand investment,” he stated. “Now, we have expanded and even have a branch in Zambia. Initially, I supported someone by buying a flight ticket for him to join me, but I later realized he had a different agenda.”

Daniel emphasized the importance of working with the right people in business.

“Opportunities are everywhere, but they only yield results when you partner with people who share your vision. We currently provide electric bicycles to delivery riders, which are highly rated and efficient. Riders can use them all day and recharge after work.”

He advised entrepreneurs seeking business partners to ensure their partners bring more than just money.

“A partner must contribute value—ideas, strategy, and long-term vision. You don’t just need capital, you need commitment.”

According to Daniel, the lack of transparency and communication is what causes most partnerships—and even marriages—to fail.

“If there’s no open dialogue and unity, the business will collapse. The pain comes when one partner bears the load more than the other. But when there’s understanding, there’s strength.”

He further added, “In Ghana, there are people who’ve built successful businesses with their wives. If a woman understands her husband’s vision, she’ll support and build with him. That’s why some men end up marrying their secretaries—they grow together.”

Daniel also shared an inspiring story of a businessman he admires, whose wife travels with him, supports him at meetings, and provides motivation. “She’s not even a Christian, but she understands the importance of partnership.”

Daniel met a 21-year-old Zambian student through Instagram. Despite the age difference, they launched a business together in China, and the young man has remained consistent and committed.

“We’ve built a strong bond. I’ve also worked with suppliers who gave me stock worth over GHC 60,000 on credit—this shows that trust and relationship-building are key in business.”

Daniel dreams of launching a delivery app and expanding his electric bicycle network.

“We started small—testing bikes and building gradually. We now have over 30 bikes ready for delivery riders. Some people defamed us, but we keep pushing.”

Daniel believes many people only see problems instead of opportunities.

“Good delivery riders are hard to find. Many want jobs but don’t have licenses. If you’re serious, get your license and I’ll support you. I’ve offered to cover licensing costs for some within 5 months.”

Reflecting on his journey, he shared,

“In 2013, I won a competition sponsored by the British Council which took me to the UK. I didn’t even have a suit—it was borrowed. But hunger for success drives you.”

Daniel expressed deep respect for Ghanaian business icon Richard Nii Armah Quaye, who serves over 300,000 customers.

“He once said, ‘You don’t chase success. You attract it by becoming valuable.’ I believe in that. Surround yourself with winners, and your mindset will change.”

“Spirituality also plays a role,” he concluded. “Every successful interpreter of vision has spiritual alignment. Until you understand that, you might not reach your full potential.”
